Where to travel with 49 € ticket – Part 1 (Rothenburg Ob der Tauber ,Germany )

The German government started this 49€ ticket from May’23 after seeing the success of the 9€ ticket which was available in 2022. This ticket is basically a monthly subscription ticket which can be used to travel anywhere in Germany using local transport i.e U Bahn, Buses,Tram, RE and RB trains. This ticket cannot be used for ICE/TGV trains.

As most of you might be aware that I have moved to Germany and stay in Munich. And travelling around the Globe is what excites me the most. So moving to Germany has opened lot of options in terms of travelling. Europe has always been at the top of my list when it came to travelling and now I can finally fulfill those dreams of exploring each and every corner of Europe.

So , coming at the post , I travelled to Rothenburg using my 49€ Deutschland ticket.

The duration from Munich to Rothenburg ob der Tauber is around 3 hrs 16 min. You can take an RE 80 from Munich Haupthbahnof to Treuchtlingen , then again an RE 80 from Treuchtlingen to Steinach and lastly a RB82 to Rothenburg ob der Tauber from Steinach.

Rothenburg ob der Tauber is actually a German town in northern Bavaria known for its medieval architecture. Half-timbered houses line the cobblestone lanes of its old town.

European architectures are to die for, the way they have preserved all their architecture and surroundings is just commendable.

You can find a lot of café’s and hotels if you wish to stay overnight. Since it was a day trip for us we did not book any hotels.

We actually went in May’23 when summer had just started hence it was not very crowded, but if you are planning for a trip , summer is actually a best time to visit Rothenburg.

Things to see in Rothenburg ob der Tauber

The Plönlein

This little square is probably the most iconic view you’ll find in Rothenburg ob der Tauber. An adorable half-timbered house, sandwiched by tall towers and perfect cobblestoned streets. Yup, it’s for real and it’s as close to postcard-perfect as you’ll get.

TIP: Come in the morning or in the early evening to avoid day trip crowds.

A view from the top

I actually forgot the name of this place, but it was breathtaking, where you see the green forests that meet up the sky it just feel surreal and serene.

Walk the town

The town itself is very picturesque, you see various pastel and bright coloured houses, hotels and café’s. There are also different shops that sell antiques as well as souvenirs.

Lately, I have been obsessed with EisCreme (IceCreams) in Europe. Wherever I go I make sure to try a different flavour :P. Lastly is a picture of me flaunting Erdbeeren und Shokolade(Strawberry & Chocolate flavoured) Ice Cream.

You can find more pics from my Rothenburg trip on my Instagram highlights.

Have you ever visited Rothenburg ob der Tauber? If not, what’s the most magical place you’ve been to? Let me know in the comments!

Till next time,
